Marian Bubak is the Scientific Affairs Director of the Sano Centre for Computational Medicine in Krakow, Poland; he also leads the Laboratory of Information Methods in Medicine at the ACC Cyfronet AGH, Krakow, Poland.
He obtained M.Sc. Eng. in technical physics and PhD in computer science from AGH University in Kraków. His research interests include parallel and distributed computing, problem solving environments, and quantum computing; he authored about 250 papers in these areas and co-edited a number of books. He served key roles in in about 20 projects financed by the European Commission, as a member of editorial boards of FGCS, Bio-Algorithms and Med-Systems, and Computer Science Journal as well as a chairman/organizer of international conferences (including ICCS in 2004 and 2008).
Until September 2021 he was staff member at the Institute of Computer Science of the AGH University, currently collaborating with it giving lectures on parallel algorithms, quantum informatics, and leading the KQIS – quantum informatics seminar. In 2000-2004 he was the dean and organizer of the Faculty of Computer Science at WSZiB in Krakow, and in 2006-2016 he was professor of Distributed Systems Engineering at the Informatics Institute, University of Amsterdam. Since April 1997, he is an employee of ACK Cyfronet AGH. Since June 2023 he is the Vice President for Scientific Affairs of the Polish information Processing Society.
