On Tuesday, July 8 2025, we organised, in collaboration with VVSG, (the organisation that unites cities and municipalities in Flanders, Belgium) on using Digital Twins to better understand and tackle climate challenges.

Climate change brings major challenges: extended periods of drought, sudden floods, or heatwaves. A Digital Twin allows you to model these situations and test solutions before implementing them. This helps you work more efficiently, sustainably and resiliently. With this workshop we wanted to help local communities to take the first steps—whether they’re starting from a local issue or a broader policy vision. Attendees included representatives of Flemish cities and municipalities, intercommunal organisations and SME’s.

During the workshop, interTwin was presented by Andrea Manzi. interTwin partner Deltares (represented by Kathryn Roscoe, Gundula Winter and Sarah Wright) presented FloodAdapt, a Decision Support System which can be used to assess the flooding, impacts, and benefits of Flood Adaptation measures in a community. The development of FloodAdapt is supported, among other projects, by interTwin.

The afternoon consisted of an interactive workshop around Deltares’ Generic Adaptation Modelling Framework, a step-by-step guide to building adaptation modelling systems leveraging DestinE resources.
