Cross-project collaborations: interTwin collaborates with other projects from the start
During the interTwin Kick-off meeting, held in Prague (Czech Republic), several external initiatives were invited in order to assess the collaboration opportunities with the interTwin project. They included H2020 projects C-SCALE and CoE Raise, and the DestinE flagship initiative.
C-SCALE is an H2020 project aiming to create a platform to easily discover, access, process, analyse and share Copernicus data, tools, resources and services through the EOSC Portal. Its main results include a federation of compute and data resources for Earth sciences ( FedEarthData), the Earth Observation Metadata Query Service (EO-MQS), a discovery service for Earth observation data, the OpenEO platform, a set of libraries to process a wide variety of Earth Observation datasets a set of workflow solutions developed in the use cases ready to be re-used and backed with C-SCALE support and community. interTwin expects to reuse OpenEO technologies and the know-how developed workflows for the environmental-related use cases and the experience developing the C-SCALE community support for the creation of the interTwin open source community.
The European Center of Excellence in Exascale Computing “Research on AI- and Simulation-Based Engineering at Exascale” (CoE RAISE) is the EU Horizon2020 project developing novel, scalable Artificial Intelligence technologies towards Exascale along representative use-cases from Engineering and Natural Sciences. During the kick off meeting a general overview of the developed tools, use cases and how they contribute to exascale systems were introduced. It was discussed how within interTwin the know-how and tools can be re-used and further developed to enable Digital Twins core services to incorporate AI capabilities.
DestinE – EUMETSAT. Destination Earth is the flagship initiative of the European Commission to develop a highly-accurate digital model of the Earth (a digital twin of the Earth) to model, monitor and simulate natural phenomena, hazards and the related human activities. EUMESAT has end-to-end responsibility for the Destination Earth Data Lake. The Data Lake supports near-data processing to maximise throughput and service scalability and implements big data distributed workflows. The concepts applied in the DestinE Data Lake Service will provide a harmonisation of data federation, beyond anything that exists today. During the kick off meeting the high level Technical Concepts, Service Deployment, and Service Establishment were presented by Mirena Marinescu. interTwin is expected to create an interoperability framework to facilitate the future development of Digital Twins and technologies able to interact with DestinE and its Data Lake.
